Time for Snippets!

Your snippets are due on Saturday, May 19th at 8:59pm CST, so we’re going to go ahead and start collecting them. This doesn't mean your story has to be complete right now (though you should have 80% of it done by June 23rd), it just means we're collecting snippets for when your artist claims you.

What we need from you:

Author Name on AO3 or Fanfiction.net*
Livejournal/Dreamwidth Name*
Story Title
Fandom
Pairings, Characters
Rating
Warnings (Violence, Non-Con/Dub-Con, Incest, Major Character Death, Etc)
Summary

*Your name will not be included on the claims post. This is for organizational purposes.

And three snippets which should be between 500-1000 words each. These will help your artist match the tone of your work, so try to pick excerpts that really encompass the tone and feeling of your story. Please include them directly in the body of the email. Please do not send attachments. Please include ALL of these things in your email with the subject [YOUR NAME] WIP BIG BANG SNIPPETS. Emails can be sent to wipbigbang@gmail.com. If you have multiple fics, please send a separate, numbered email for each one. You will receive a confirmation email once we’ve gotten your email.

Failure to send us snippets or an email by May 19th will NOT drop you from the big bang, but you will not receive art for your fic. This is, however, the last chance to change fics, so be sure to send us an email if you would like to do that. If you are bringing in your own artist or would like to opt out of receiving art, please let us know even if you’ve talked to use already. You do NOT have to send snippets if you’re bringing an artist or opting out, but we still need to verify your info.

There's no way that I'll have enough snippets that properly encompass the plot of my story by the nineteenth. I'm barely working on Chapter Three, and the action doesn't truly start until about Chapter Five.

I desperately do not want to drop out. But I don't see what choice I have. :( Life snuck up on me all of a sudden, and I don't know how I'll ever get things done in time.

Is it possible for me to send snippets of words already written from previous chapters or must they all be new to this big bang? I don't think someone can really understand the ending of my story without some snippets of the beginning and middle.

Yes, that's fine! The snippets can be from anywhere in your fic, whatever you feel represents your fic best.

I just sent in my snippets and forgot to add a note that I'm going to be away from late May through the first week of June. If there's any issues during claims or the third check-in, I will probably see and be able to answer DW PMs and comments easier than emails while I'm gone. I'm assuming check-in 3 will be an optional one like 1 and 2, but if I have that wrong let me know what you'd like me to do instead? I can either check in before I leave (early next week) or after I get back (June 7th) if need be...

That shouldn't be a problem! The check in is optional, so don't worry about that. And you shouldn't need to do anything for art claims, you'll just get an email from us with details about your artist when your fic is claimed.

I'm going to opt out of art. I'd still like to finish the challenge, but I'm not 100% sure that's going to happen. Better safe than put an artist out. :)
