FAQ

What is the WIP Big Bang?

Good question! This is a Big Bang with one goal in mind: to clean out your fanfic drafts folder. These are stories that were unfinished for whatever reason, that authors returned to and completed, and the art that goes with them!

What is the WIP Reverse Bang?

It’s similar to the regular Big Bang, except it’s for artists to finish WIP artwork (either traditional art, digital art, fanvideos, fanmixes or filk) and get a fic in exchange of at least 1000 words.

Is there anything not allowed?

Content wise, no. Problematic fandoms are fine. RPS/RPF is fine. Incest and underage pairings are fine. Graphic violence is fine. Non-con/dubcon is fine. Things like that I know have been hinted at in questions asked and as long as you tag for them, we’ll allow it. Also, canon settings with mostly OCs and original fic/art is also allowed (though it is harder to pair you with someone for fic/art). We just ask that it be tagged properly with any content warnings you would deem fit and be given the appropriate rating for the level of sex/violence there is in the fic. Just bear in mind that while original work is allowed you may not get art for it. However, we absolutely do not allow AI generated writing or art for either bang; it will result in a permanent ban if you are caught using AI in any capacity.

How many fics/art pieces can we sign up for?

We absolutely don’t mind multiple sign-ups; I know one year someone submitted 50 fics to finish, and got at least half of them done. We just ask that when you sign up with more than one fic/art piece you give each fic/art piece a unique user ID (please do not use the same ID for all your fics/art pieces...it’s important to have different IDs for the check-ins.

We encourage you to sign up for all the fics and art projects you plan on completing before May 21st and then dropping the ones you can't complete prior to snippets submissions; however, if you finish projects well before snippet submissions, we may consider letting you add new projects into the bangs on a case-by-case basis.

Is a piece that is part of another event (like a zine, FTH, or even another Big Bang) allowed as long as all the dates for posting line up?

Yes, we have no problem with you combining our event with other ones as long as you don't post new parts before July 1st (we will definitely give permission for early posting in that case).

Will I get emails about the bang?

We only email participants when their WIP has been claimed for art/fic. Please keep this fact in mind when deciding whether you want to participate; it is your responsibility to keep track of the schedule and know when check-ins and other events in the Big Bang/Reverse Bang are taking place.

If you need a reminder about due dates, the FAQ/Schedule is pinned on top of the Tumblr and Dreamwidth blogs and we use the Discord to remind participants of important dates in the Announcements channel. The pinned post on Tumblr is updated as we add links to specific things for the Big Bang/Reverse Bang, and if you join the Discord you can choose to get pinged when we make announcements regarding the events. The Discord is open year-round to both participants and non-participants, and the permanent invite link can be found above under the schedule next to the Mod email.

Do I need a Livejournal/Dreamwidth/AO3/etc. account to participate? Are we allowed to participate without joining the Discord?

No! You don’t have to have an account on anything to participate, though you will need to have somewhere to post your finished work. Having one or more accounts will help for you to follow what is going on with the bang (we crosspost to Dreamwidth and Tumblr and heavily use our Discord server at the moment), but they are not required to participate. You can always leave comments anonymously or with an opensource ID.

The Discord server is optional, as it is just another way to interact with your fellow writers and get updates on important dates. It’s not mandatory you join, however.

I have a question/concern that’s not mentioned here.

If you need help, you can always contact a mod and we will do our best to make sure that you get your story/art finished. The best and fastest method of contact is through our email, wipbigbang@gmail.com.

Dates for most participants run from September 8th to November 30th. Emergency dates run from December 1st to December 31st and are not listed on this form. Please list your date preferences in order of most wanted to least wanted if you are planning to post between September 8th through November 30th.

As of the 2025 round we started using a new form so that everyone could sign up despite the dates being here on Dreamwidth. If you are planning on posting in December you still must fill out the form, as there's an agreement all participants must agree to that they will post their project by December 31st or drop before that date, or else they will be banned from participation for a round. I will update on a daily basis. If all three or your date choices are taken a mod will email you with other potential dates. Please check this page to verify you got one of your date choices!

And officially the final round of fic and art claims has ended! We still have a few outstanding fics that I'm going to go through and claim so that everyone who is participating has at least one fic with art if possible, so those emails should go out later tonight or tomorrow.

The next thing up is posting date claims, which will go live August 23rd and run until September 1st. If you do not claim a date to post/let us know you will be posting in December while the form is open, you will not be able to post your work to WIPBB's Tumblr or Dreamwidth! As of the 2025 round, we have an agreement each WIPBB authors and WIPRB artist needs to acknowledge that says if they do not post by January 1st they run the risk of being banned for a round (WIPBB artists and WIPRB authors do not need to acknowledge the agreement as it is the WIPBB authors and WIPRB artist who have to fill out the form).

Posting will start on September 8th and will run until the 2026 round ends (11:59 PM PST December 31st).

This is Round One of the Art Claims for the 2026 round of WIP Big Bang. You may claim one fic this round. Please put your top three choices in order of preference in case your first choice is taken. Please fill out the form with a unique check-in IDs for your claims submission if you are already participating in WIPBB as an author or WIPRB as an artist/author.

If you are signing up to do art for WIPBB or fic for WIPRB, you and your project partner will be picking a posting date that works best for both of you when posting date claims open August 23rd. The posting dates for claimed posting are between September 8th and November 30th, with the month of December open for emergency posting. You no longer have to have your project finished by September 7th!

Round one of the art claims will go on until July 24th. A fic is crossed out when it is claimed and can no longer be asked for.

Snippets submissions are now closed! We had 134 snippets submitted for WIPBB and 15 snippets submitted for WIPRB. If you need to make adjustments you have until the 16th to email them to wipbigbang@gmail.com. Please put the fandom and fic title in the subject line if you need to make changes because once the coding is made for the claims I now longer have the individual Check-In IDs attached to each entry.

So for anyone not on Discord, I had laptop issues that would have potentially changed the claims schedule dramatically, but fortunately it seems to have been resolved. However, since I want to be sure I'll have a working laptop to send out claims emails I'm going to extend snippets submissions to 11:59 PM July 13th and we'll keep the rest of the schedule as the same with the first round of claims starting on the 17th with one claim per person that round. If the laptop craps out again, I will update with whatever the modified schedule because someone is sending me a laptop I can use as a backup (bless them).

My apologies for the delay! Snippets collection for both WIP Big Bang and WIP Reverse Bang is now open. Please only submit snippets if you are reasonably sure you will finish your project before January 1st, 2027. WIPBB participants need to submit at least one (but preferably up to three) snippets between 500 to 1500 words each. WIPRB participants need to submit at least one snippet (but no more than three) of their project uploaded to an independent hosting site.

Because snippets are going up a day late, we're going to extend snippets collection to July 12th.

Check-In #2 is now closed! I thought it was supposed to close on the 23rd, not the 22nd, so everyone got almost a full extra day. I think I answered all the Notes To Mods questions that were put in but just in case I didn't, feel free to send an email to wipbigbang@gmail.com with whatever questions you may have and I'll answer them as soon as we can (I, Mod Ragna, still have some personal stuff going on that got exacerbated by finding out there was a death in the family earlier in the week, so it's been fun).

Also, friendly reminder that snippets submission for both WIPBB and WIPRB will start on July 1st and go until July 11th. If you think you will have problems submitting your snippets and story info during that time, please let us know ASAP via the mod email so we can make arrangements to accommodate you if possible.

WIP Big Bang & WIP Reverse Bang Check-In #2 is live! Please remember that all four check-ins are not mandatory so if you do not do it or you accidentally miss one of them, it's totally fine. This form is used for both WIPBB and WIPRB, so please fill it in once for each project you are completing for either Bang. You should be using a different unique check-in ID for each project if you are completing multiple projects, so if that's not the case send an email to the mod email account (wipbigbang@gmail.com) with check-in ID substitutions you may need and then do the check-ins with the new IDs you want to use. If you plan to drop out, DO NOT fill out the form for those projects and instead send an email about which projects you want to drop to wipbigbang@gmail.com.

My apologies for posting this so late; real life has been conspiring against me, it seems. But sign-ups for the 2026 WIP Big Bang and WIP Reverse Bang are now closed, as is Check-In #1. We have 430 writers signed up for WIPBB and 43 artists signed up for WIPRB! So this will be a lot of fun.

Also, the two prior FAQ posts are for a more permanent and streamlined FAQ that we will begin to use every round from here on out and simply pin the Schedule to the top of the page with the FAQ to the particular event we are running linked underneath. There aren't many new additions to the streamlined FAQ except to specifically mention this is a pro ship even in what content we allow, as an anon of Tumblr insisted we add it and we agreed, but there has been a lot that has been condensed or outright omitted. So feel free to give both FAQs a look, but please note they won't be officially used until the IFD Mini Band starts on January 1st 2027.
