So it looks like, between the Tumblr and DW post, that extending the sign-ups would be something y'all want. So the sign-ups are now officially extended to **May 28th**! I'll still be posting the first check-in form tomorrow, and instead of staying open for one week it will stay open for two this round.

So I have been up for the last 34 hours working on advertisements on Tumblr and I have got to get some sleep. But I have about 11 fandoms that have writers/artists signed up already that I want to advertise to so we have potential partners already following when art claims/fic claims go up. So how would you all feel if I extended sign-ups to the 28th? The first check-in will still go live on the 22nd, but since they're voluntary you don't have to do it if you just signed up (we don't ask for proof of progress, BTW; it's just a checkbox to let us know you're still participating). So it's December 1st where I am (where the heck has the year gone?!?) and that means the "official" posting period for the 2024 WIP Big Bang is now over. However, unofficial posting continues until December 31st, so if you haven't finished your fic or art, you have until then to post to Tumblr or Dreamwidth and be included in the 2024 Master Post.

Next up is the International Fanworks Day Mini Bang! That starts January 1st and lasts up until February 22nd, with posting starting February 15th and lasting for a week. This is for works that didn't make it in time to be included in the 2024 Master Post as well as fics 7,500 words and under (no new art for this one...that will come up during the next WIP Reverse Bang in April).

Everyone should be super proud of themselves for all the work they put into their fics, even if they had to drop out or didn't finish by November 30th. The mods are all pleased with how much work everyone did and all the great fanworks that got released into the wild! The 2024 Master Post should be up within the next week on Tumblr and Dreamwidth.

Posting is now open! For posting to Tumblr, you can either submit your post to Tumblr via the Submit link, or you can post it to your own blog and then use wipbigbang in the post somewhere so we get tagged. For Dreamwidth, you have to make a new post directly to the community, where it will go into our queue and I will approve it from there.

Once you're done posting, go to this form and link to your **bragging rights**, either on Tumblr or Dreamwidth. We'll take that as your check-in that you finished and posted your work, and that link will be used for the masterlist (this year, I'm going to try and include usernames from AO3/FF.net, but no promises)

So I would like to take a moment to bring something up to all of you on the Discord server, and similar messages will go up on the Tumblr and Dreamwidth. So bear with me.

I have been homeless all of last round and most of this round. I only lucked into the housing I have right now because the city I now live in owns the apartment. I have arthritis, fibromyalgia and Long Covid. I live on a second floor apartment now. So, naturally, considering I am the most able bodied person in my family even with my disabilities, I am the primary caretaker of everyone: I do the cooking, I do the cleaning and as such, I have been building all the furniture we've managed to get.

Up until last night, all three of us were on mattresses on the floor. I gave up a lot of energy making three seperate beds in a non-air conditioned apartment. It was hard work. I just got my daughter's bed up this evening and I am sore. I decided I'd deal with WIPBB business in the morning and was trying to relax and escape the pain I was in.

What I got this evening was a very demanding email from a participant. Now, I will not name names and circumstances, but the tone was demanding and it immediately soured my mood to the point I am still upset nearly a half hour later. I wasn't fast enough in making a correction. Instead of sleeping, I have now updated the posting list, made the corrections that were demanded of me, and I'm about to post a link to the final drafts check-in form and then stay offline for a few days. Maybe. I'm still not sure about that last part.

We are all human. We all have a lot going on. But I've been pretty candid about what's happened with me and, for the most part, everyone is great when it takes me a few days to do something, or we need to change the schedule to accommodate a change in my home life. But I'm partially considering not running this event anymore as well. I put in a lot of time and energy doing behind the scenes work, not to mention I take on about 40 fics a round to do art for. I love this event. But right now? Any enthusiams I had for making art/fic is gone. And I don't know if/when it will come back.

So yeah. That's where it stands right now. The AO3 collection is open, and I will always make sure people get their stuff posted, but I'm going to take a break for at least a day or two, try and get my temper under control, and reevaluate if I want to spend so much time on this event next year, if I even run it next year. So I'm going to keep the claims list open a few more hours, update it when I wake up, and then I'll take a break. Until then, Mod Ragna signing off.

Dates for most participants run from September 8th, 2021 to November 30th. Emergency dates run from November 15th to November 30th. Please list your date preferences in order of most wanted to least wanted. If you have been given permission by a mod to claim an emergency date, list the emergency date you want and a second and third emergency date, just in case.

This round we'll be using a form so that everyone can sign up despite the dates being here on Dreamwidth. I will update on a daily basis and let everyone know via email and this page which date they got. This form is being used for both the WIPBB and the WIP Reverse Bang!

The form for the Thumbnail Submissions is live! It's basically the same first few parts as the Snippet submission form (asking for a title if you have it, character/pairings, fandom...if it's original just put Original Work...warnings if needed and a brief description of the work to entice someone to claim it). The actual submission page is a little different. Please upload your thumbnail to PostImages.org or another image saving server (just no Photoshop, please...they're doing their users dirty right now) and link it in Thumbnail #1. If you want, you can include up to two more thumbnails as well, but you only have to upload one.

FAQ

What is the Reverse WIP Big Bang? Good question! This is a Big Bang with one goal in mind: to clean out your fanart/original art drafts folder. Any art that is of a digital or traditional means as well as fanvideos are eligible. If you’ve started word on an art/fanvid project and want an impetus to finish, maybe with a fic written in honor of it, now is your chance!

Do I need a Livejournal/Dreamwidth/AO3/etc. account to participate? No! You don’t have to have an account on anything to participate, though you will need to have somewhere to post your finished work. Having one or more accounts will help for you to follow what is going on with the bang (we crosspost to Dreamwidth and Tumblr and heavily use our Discord server at the moment), but they are not required to participate. You can always leave comments anonymously or with an opensource ID.

How many art pieces can we sign up for? We absolutely don’t mind multiple sign-ups. As this is a trial, run, however, we ask that you limit yourself to three unfinished projects that are at least 10% complete upon sign-up. We just ask that when you sign up with more than one art piece/fanvid you give each project a unique user ID (please do not use the same ID for all your art...it’s important to have different IDs for the check-ins).

Will I get emails about the bang? We do send out some emails, mostly for thumbnails and fic claims and to ensure communication between authors and artists, but please do NOT rely on getting an email to remind you of due dates. We currently do not keep an updated email list of participants, so we only send individual emails as needed rather than mass emails.

However, email is the fastest way to communicate with the mods. If you have any questions or are having trouble communicating with your artist/author, please do email us! We will do our best to respond quickly.

Sign ups for the regular round of WIPBB are now closed. We had almost 500 different fics submitted! Yay to everyone forging ahead on finishing their work this round, and good luck!

There is also something we're doing a trial run of this round, with sign ups starting June 1st. We're going to see if we can handle a Reverse WIPBB as well, where artists sign up to finish their art and can potentially get a 750 word minimum fic written for it (just like the original WIPBB, this part is opt in). We will have a modified schedule and more information coming out shortly!
