WIP Big Bang/WIP Reverse Bang start in two days! Us mods are so excited, and we hope you are, too.

So, this round we're going to retire about 125 fandom banners of ones that either are being grouped under new banner to consolidate fandoms or are fandoms that never got much traction in the last few rounds. We are also going to add some new fandoms to the list and on that score, we would love suggestions! Here are the changes we are making:

Some of the single character MCU movies will be listed under the non-specific MCU banner (the old Avengers one will be used to list all the various MCU movie titles).

I will also try to do a banner for the comics X-Men as I have one for the live action movies going under my MCU listing of banners (since I'm renaming all the banners we're using and grouping them with the MCU thanks to them showing up in "Deadpool & Wolverine" as well as "Avengers: Doomsday") and would like input on whether I should do various X-Men comic titles or list X-Men who are not in the live action movies (or possibly both).

As we primarily do most of our advertising on Tumblr and I have over 350 fandom banners to use for that purpose (plus the 125 we're retiring), if you would like a banner for a specific fandom to use in advertising here on Dreamwidth or in Discord servers and in other places, let me know and I'll upload any banners I've got for it (or make one if I don't) and then once we have the sign-ups here on Dreamwidth you can link to them.

Please do us a favor before sign-ups start and go over the new FAQ; we updated it extensively over the course of the 2025 round as we had more participation than we had ever had before, and it was our first full round of the WIP Reverse Bang as well. We're pretty sure we hit every question we had directed at us via the mod email and the Discord, so hopefully any questions you might possibly have, whether you're a new participant or a returning one, should be answered there.

Please note that we decided to start fresh regarding the block list, so even if you should have been blocked last round you're free to participate this round (and we would especially love it if you posted the projects you were supposed to post during the 2025 round this upcoming posting period starting in September, even if you don't sign up with them in the 2026 round)

Also! I'm hoping, fingers crossed, to get the 2024 and 2025 master lists sorted before the new round starts as I was able to access my broken laptop and get all my new files sorted onto my new laptop. But I also got all the fandom-specific banners I had for advertising (which will start April 1st) and if anyone would like to volunteer to make banners for more recent fandoms, please let us know!

FAQ

What is the WIP Big Bang?

Good question! This is a Big Bang with one goal in mind: to clean out your fanfic drafts folder. These are stories that were unfinished for whatever reason, that authors returned to and completed, and the art that goes with them!

What is the WIP Reverse Bang?

It’s similar to the regular Big Bang, except it’s for artists to finish WIP artwork (either traditional art, digital art, fanvideos, fanmixes or filk) and get a fic in exchange of at least 1000 words.

Is there anything not allowed?

Content wise, no. Problematic fandoms are fine. RPS/RPF is fine. Incest and underage pairings are fine. Graphic violence is fine. Non-con/dubcon is fine. Things like that I know have been hinted at in questions asked and as long as you tag for them, we’ll allow it. Also, canon settings with mostly OCs and original fic/art is also allowed (though it is harder to pair you with someone for fic/art). We just ask that it be tagged properly with any content warnings you would deem fit and be given the appropriate rating for the level of sex/violence there is in the fic. Just bear in mind that while original work is allowed you may not get art for it. However, we absolutely do not allow AI generated writing or art for either bang; it will result in a permanent ban if you are caught using AI in any capacity.

How many fics/art pieces can we sign up for?

We absolutely don’t mind multiple sign-ups; I know one year someone submitted 50 fics to finish, and got at least half of them done. We just ask that when you sign up with more than one fic/art piece you give each fic/art piece a unique user ID (please do not use the same ID for all your fics/art pieces...it’s important to have different IDs for the check-ins.

We encourage you to sign up for all the fics and art projects you plan on completing before May 21st and then dropping the ones you can't complete prior to snippets submissions; however, if you finish projects well before snippet submissions, we may consider letting you add new projects into the bangs on a case-by-case basis.

Is a piece that is part of another event (like a zine, FTH, or even another Big Bang) allowed as long as all the dates for posting line up?

Yes, we have no problem with you combining our event with other ones as long as you don't post new parts before July 1st (we will definitely give permission for early posting in that case).

Will I get emails about the bang?

We only email participants when their WIP has been claimed for art/fic. Please keep this fact in mind when deciding whether you want to participate; it is your responsibility to keep track of the schedule and know when check-ins and other events in the Big Bang/Reverse Bang are taking place.

If you need a reminder about due dates, the FAQ/Schedule is pinned on top of the Tumblr and Dreamwidth blogs and we use the Discord to remind participants of important dates in the Announcements channel. The pinned post on Tumblr is updated as we add links to specific things for the Big Bang/Reverse Bang, and if you join the Discord you can choose to get pinged when we make announcements regarding the events. The Discord is open year-round to both participants and non-participants, and the permanent invite link can be found above under the schedule next to the Mod email.

Do I need a Livejournal/Dreamwidth/AO3/etc. account to participate? Are we allowed to participate without joining the Discord?

No! You don’t have to have an account on anything to participate, though you will need to have somewhere to post your finished work. Having one or more accounts will help for you to follow what is going on with the bang (we crosspost to Dreamwidth and Tumblr and heavily use our Discord server at the moment), but they are not required to participate. You can always leave comments anonymously or with an opensource ID.

The Discord server is optional, as it is just another way to interact with your fellow writers and get updates on important dates. It’s not mandatory you join, however.

Friendly reminder that posting for the WIP Big Bang International Fanworks Day Mini Bang 2026 ends in five days (and about 2 1/2 hours). Non-targeted advertising for the 2026 rounds of WIP Big Bang and WIP Reverse Bangs will then start on the 17th, and the updated FAQ and schedule for that will be posted here on Dreamwidth as well as on Tumblr and the Discord channel.

Just announced it on the Discord channel (mostly because I had a wicked allergy attack yesterday and wasn't online) but we are extending posting for the 2026 Mini Bang to March 16th, as February seemed to be a rough month for everyone.

My apologies for not posting this on the 14th; I didn't get on my laptop until just now so it went up late. But posting for the WIP Big Bang International Fanworks Day Mini Bang 2026 starts today (February 15th)! Posting goes from today until March 1st, and while it is primarily for fic under 7500 words, but if you didn't finish art for the 2025 WIP Big Bang or fic for the 2025 WIP Reverse Bang (regardless of length) you can also post it during this time.

There's no scheduled posting days; whenever you finish, feel free to post the bragging rights on Tumblr or Dreamwidth with this specific form for your fanworks. It allows you bragging rights for finishing your fic/art, and also links to the location of your fic (it should be up somewhere like AO3/FF.net/your personal Tumblr under a tag/any other fic or journal community) in its completion*. We also have an AO3 collection for this round where you can post the AO3 postings of your fic and art to.

FAQ

What is the WIP Big Bang International Fanworks Day Mini Bang?
Good question! This is a Mini Bang with one goal in mind: to clean out your fanfic drafts folder for the fics that were too short to be completed during the main Big Bang (ie, finished works are 7.5K words and under).

Do I need a Livejournal/Dreamwidth/AO3/etc. account to participate?
No! You don’t have to have an account on anything to participate, though you will need to have somewhere to post your finished work. Having one or more accounts will help for you to follow what is going on with the bang (we cross-post to Dreamwidth and Tumblr and heavily use our Discord server at the moment), but they are not required to participate. You can always leave comments anonymously or with an opensource ID.

How many fics can I write?
We absolutely don’t mind multiple fics! There are no sign-ups for this, as it’s an informal Mini Bang, so as long as it stays under he max word count, you can finish as many fics as you want between January 1st and February 15th.

Will I get emails about the bang?
We do not send out any emails for the Mini Bang, as we currently do not keep an updated email list of participants, so we only send individual emails as needed rather than mass emails.

However, email is the fastest way to communicate with the mods. If you have any questions or are having trouble communicating with your artist/author, please do email us! We will do our best to respond quickly.

What do you mean by maximum word count?
You don’t have to have a set minimum of your fic to start, so an outlined fic is fine, but it must be under 7,500 words when it’s finished.

Posting for the 2025 round of WIP Big Bang and WIP Reverse Bang is now closed. The masterlist will go up at some point in January.

WIP Mini Bang rules will go up later today.

Posting for the 2025 round of WIP Big Bang and WIP Reverse Bang will officially close at 11:59 PM PST (roughly a little over nine hours from this posting). I will not be reblogging anything submitted after that point. If you do not post and do not send an email to wipbigbang@gmail.com officially dropping out before that point, you will be banned for the 2026 round as a regular participant (you may sign up as an artist for a fic/writer for an art project, however). The 2025 round masterlist will go up at some point in January.

The 2026 WIP Mini Bang details will go up at some point tomorrow (January 9th) and posting for that event will be extended to March 1st due to the information going out over a week late.

Information for the 2026 WIP Big Bang & WIP Reverse Bang will go up on April 1st.

Due to Mod Ragna not only being in a car accident a week ago but her laptop freezing as well, emergency posting will be extended to January 8th, 2026.

So the scheduled posting portion of WIPBB/WIPRB posting is now over! Thank you so much to everyone who has posted so far; we've had a lot of great fic and artwork and I for one have been truly dazzled by all the stuff posted.

If you opted for a December date (either originally or rescheduling during the posting period), you will hae until whenever I wake up on January 1st to either post your fic/art or email us at wipbigbang@gmail.com to drop out. I will be posting the info about the mini bang around midnight and then fingers crossed I will actually go to sleep before the sun comes up, and then I will post anything still waiting to be posted when I wake up and then posting will officially be over. Within the next week or two I will post the 2025 masterlist as well as both the 2024 Big Bang masterlist and the 2025 Mini Bang masterlist (both of which I started to compile but lost access to the files and just got access back this week).

If you had a posting date in September/October/November and didn't email us about rescheduling for December, you are still more than welcome to post in December as well! We had a lot of people who claimed dates who didn't post or alert us, so you still have time to post before you get banned for not posting. Post at any point in December by posting your Bragging Rights (found at https://wipbigbang.dreamwidth.org/210584.html) to the Tumblr (either by submitting them or tagging our blog in your post) or Dreamwidth. You must include the Bragging rights in the template or I won't reblog your post.

I will also go through the posting date claims form to see who signed up and didn't post or drop out in time. I will alert participants who are banned from being WIPBB authors/WIPRB artists for the 2026 round via the mod email, and will kee a list of emails to cross-check against the 2026 sign-ups. If you are banned and you submit a sign-up, your sign-up will be deleted and you will be reminded of your ban. Sign up again after the reminder and I will ban you from participating as a WIPBB artist/WIPRB author in the 2026 round as well.

A friendly reminder once again that we do not want fics and art to be tagged when you submit them. I, Mod Ragna, will do all the tagging once I approve your fic. Please respect my modly wishes because it makes it easier fo me to do it and make sure I do the right tags.

I mentioned this on the Discord but I forgot to mention it here. My apologies.

Please DO NOT tag your posts when you submit them to this blog! One of the mods will take care of the tagging for you once your submission is approved, because I have to go into the tag editor to edit or merge tags that are done wrong and it's just a hassle.

Just a friendly reminder to those posting on Tumblr that using the @ function for tagging the WIPBB blog is not enough unless you've added your bragging rights to the post. I will not reblog posts that don't have bragging rights attached! You can add them to a reblog and @ us again, or email the filled out bragging rights to the mod email and I can add them as a reblog to your original post. You can also submit your bragging rights to Tumblr with a link to your fic/art and a link to your Tumblr post!

Also, re: posting late. If you are posting late within 24 hours of your posting date you're fine; life happens and we totally understand. If it's over 24 hours late, though, please request a new posting date. We have plenty of open slots!

Dates for most participants run from September 8th to November 30th. Emergency dates run from December 1st to December 31st and are not listed on this form. Please list your date preferences in order of most wanted to least wanted. If you have been given permission by a mod to claim an emergency date, list the emergency date you want and a second and third emergency date, just in case, then leave a note you have mod permission in the notes.

This round we'll be using a new form so that everyone can sign up despite the dates being here on Dreamwidth. If you are planning on posting in December you still must fill out the form, as there's an agreement all participants must agree to that they will post their project by December 31st or drop before that date, or else they will be banned from participation for a round. I will update on a daily basis. If all three or your date choices are taken a mod will email you with other potential dates. Please check this page to verify you got one of your date choices!

As we still have a number of unclaimed WIPs, we'll be leaving our pinch-hitter signups open until August 31st (the Dreamwidth pages have been updated but the summary pages and form links will remain the same). After that, if there are WIPs still left unclaimed, we're afraid we cannot provide art or fics for those WIPs.

We understand that this may be a disappointment for these authors and artists. Unfortunately, the unexpected growth of the event this year in conjunction with the lack of available pinch hitters has made it impossible for us to guarantee art/fic for all the participants who signed up for claims. We hope this event nonetheless continues to help you finish your WIPs.

WE HAVE MADE CHANGES TO THE SCHEDULE AND FAQ - PLEASE READ!
So the other mods and I had talked about tweaking the schedule when I realized Check-In #4 was supposed to go live August 6th, which is less than two weeks after Check-In #3 had ended so that made no sense. We had planned on doing it for the 2026 round but I'm going to institute the changes now.

Basically, we are getting rid of Rough Draft check-ins, and substituting Check-In #4 for that. We are moving Check-In #4 to the end of August, and this check-in is open to everyone. WIPBB writers and WIPRB artists as well as the WIPBB artists and WIPRB authors are allowed to check in during Check-In #4. Basically it's still optional, but this will give us a better idea of if you're ready to post or if you have any questions.

Posting Claims dates are going to stay the same, but this round for WIPRB participants, we are asking that if you are simply submitting your finished art and not getting a fic for it you pick a September or early to mid October posting date; if you are getting fic for your art, we want those later dates to be available so fic writers will have time to write the fic and get it beta read (optional but recommended).

We will have a "Final Check-In" of sorts that will be open during the entire posting period (September 8th to January 1st, which is when I will close the form). Basically, the Final Check-In is a form you will fill out with the link to your bragging rights post on Tumblr or Dreamwidth (or, if you are a WIPBB artist or a WIPRB writer who is not posting your own bragging rights, a link to your Tumblr, Dreamwidth or AO3 post). This is important, as it lets us know you have finished your project for WIPBB/WIPRB.

We also made edits to the FAQ that were going to go into effect in the 2026 round, but I am posting it this round since it's easier to copy/paste everything instead of just tweaking little bits. They are now pinned on the Tumblr and Dreamwidth blogs.

Mod Ragna has an early and long day tomorrow and can't stay up until after midnight PST to post Round 3 of WIPBB/WIPRB art/fic claims, so the form for Round 2 will close at 10 PM PST and Round 3 of claims will go up around 10:30 PM PST today.

This is Round Two of the Fic Writer Claims for the 2025 round of WIPrB. You may claim up to two art projects this round. Please put your top three choices in order of preference in case your first choice is taken. If you want two separate art projects to write fic for, fill out the form twice with two unique check-in IDs.
