Summary:
Things had been at equilibrium with Zenigata for years. Then Moneta came along.
At some point after their last job in this middle-of-nowhere town, Zenigata had suffered some kind of nasty head injury. Had lost his memory. And he'd assumed that he was supposed to be a thief, because apparently even with amnesia he was obsessed with Lupin.
By all rights, it could have been a funny story, something for Lupin to lord over him after he got his memory back. Could have even made good blackmail material, if Pops was the kind of guy who would ever need to be blackmailed.
But then Lupin went and had sex with him. And that changed the equation quite a bit.

When I Started: 2021
How I Lost My Shit: Well, I usually either start writing with some sort of plan, or I write one scene and then stop forever. This fic was the latter one-- I wrote the first scene and set it down for three years.
How I Finished My Shit: I originally signed up for the WIP Big Bang with two fics that were not this one. Then, about a week or two after signups the muse abruptly left both of them and flew into this one and suddenly I HAD TO FINISH IT RIGHT NOW.
Eventually, okay, I petered out a little bit, and got to the point I usually get when I spend too long on a fic where I have no idea if I'm even typing words any more and editing is like pulling teeth. Still, this is not only my longest completed fic to date by a country mile, but my first ever multichapter, and I'm pretty damned proud of that!!

How I Lost My Shit: After having a strong start, I stalled after a few months. Coupled with some big life changes, I was tempted to put this away and finish it later.
How I Finished My Shit: Seeing this challenge at the same time that I was starting to lose focus was very serendipitous. Signing up and committing helped me push through and keep writing. This gave me a very clear deadline (even as this story grew much longer than I expected).

How I Lost My Shit: I read a bunch of random Steve/Bucky one weekend after rewatching CA:TWS and there were some things where I thought, I like these ideas but I would do things this other way, so I jotted down a few notes here and there, which turned into making an outline for a story where they fixed up a house and hoping that would be enough to satisfy the urge. And then I couldn't stop thinking about it and figured, this is enough of an outline that I could potentially do NaNoWriMo with this. So I wrote 50k… then promptly stopped wanting to look at it.
How I Finished My Shit: When I saw WIP BB was running again I figured it would be a good way to finish up, since having the regular check-ins and a deadline is generally helpful to my writing process! And then it ended up the longest thing I've ever written.

Summary: As Angel comes to realize that he does like living at the hotel, his hopefulness takes a beating. First, his dad and brother show up but that’s a problem he knows how to handle. However, when someone decides to destroy everyone’s happiness, Angel may have to fall back on his old mafia-born ways and violent sins to keep the people he cares about safe.

I plan to tag the more problematic chapters in their notes as well but between Henroin and Val you can expect verbal abuse, gas lighting, physical abuse, sexual abuse, non-con/dub-con, drug usage. There is canon level violence as well. Also attempted kidnapping and kidnapping will be a thing in this.

When I Started: This was started in May of 2021 and was mostly stalled for three years.
How I Lost My Shit: I got to the point where I was hitting movie canon and just could not deal with the idea of rewriting the entire original trilogy. So I quit writing and left it for years. There was just no way I was going to do that to myself. Especially since it was already one of my longest fics ever at that point.
How I Finished My Shit: I used the power of this event to make myself look at it again. And then decided I wasn't going to do a full rewrite. But that I would only worry about the parts I needed to and end this at the point that felt the most right for them.

It was half spite-fueled, with regards to the one bookmarker who tagged this fic as 'dead' (happy September Spite Month!), and half hope fueled, by all the kudos I'd still get years later and the one bookmarker who tagged it 'never gonna give you up'.

WIPBB Check In #4 is closed. Thank you to everyone who filled out the form! Participants who had concerns have been emailed and the many thank yous have been shared with the other mods.

The rough draft check in is live! The form is linked below and is open to all participants (WIPBB authors & artists and WIPRB artists), though it's only mandatory this round for WIPBB authors and WIPRB artists. There is a new section to the form you can use to indicate whether you're filling out the form as a WIPBB author or artist or a WIPRB artist or author. Hopefully, it's not too confusing, but we're going to try it out during this test run to see if we can just combine most forms next time we another WIPRB round.
