I have a question/concern that’s not mentioned here.

If you need help, you can always contact a mod and we will do our best to make sure that you get your story/art finished. The best and fastest method of contact is through our email, wipbigbang@gmail.com.

I have to make a few unexpected edits, but the final counts for submissions are 219 fics to WIPBB and 45 art projects to WIPRB! It looks like we're going to have plenty for artists and writers to choose from.

Claiming will go live on July 17th, so keep a lookout to the pinned post for links to the summaries! Also, please remember to check the newly updated schedule for the start and end dates of each stage of the bangs.

So one of the mods brought up a good point about the posting dates, so there's going to be a slight change this round with when emergency posting will be. Official posting will, from now on, go from September 8th to November 30th since we have so many more posters than previous rounds. Emergency posting will go on for the entire month of December, and you will not have to sign up for it, you'll just post when you finish.

Also, with regards to submitting snippets if you don't think you'll finish your fic/art by November 30th: With December now being reserved for emergency posting, you CAN submit snippets for WIPs even if you can only finish by December. However, we strongly encourage you to be upfront with your artist if you're aiming for a December posting and come to a decision on what specific date to (finish) post(ing) by so you don't leave them hanging.

This is how snippet submission will work:

Fic snippet submissions and art snippet submissions will be on different forms, and both forms will be listed here in #announcements on the Discord as well as pinned under the pinned Schedule/FAQ post on Tumblr and pinned to the top of the Dreamwidth page as a separate post under the Schedule/FAQ (since a lot of you are on Tumblr I'm also going to have a post with the links I'll reblog every day the submissions forms are open, just in case people can't see the secondary pinned post).

Fic writers are to submit at least one but at max three snippets between 500 to 1500 words (if it goes over or under a bit that's fine). You may also submit them using Google Docsor Ellipsus (with the GDocs/Ellipsus option you can put all three snippets in one document and put the link in the first section and N/A in the other two sections, or you can do separate doc for each section and post each link in an individual snippets section...just make sure your artist can view them without haing to get your permission first!). The Google form collecting snippets does not italicize/bold/underline your text automatically when it's submitted; you can either use HTML coding to indicate where italicized/bolded/underlined text will be or submit it as a Gdoc link.

For those submitting art project snippets, you only have to supply one snippet to an image hosting service/YouTube/sound hosting service and provide a link to it, but you must provide the snippet when you submit the snippet form. If you want to provide more than one snippet you may, but it's not required.

Both snippet submission forms will be asking for general information about your fic/art project. You'll have two sections for content warnings (one for AO3's general warnings as a checkbox option and a section to write in any other warnings or things you want artists/writers to be aware of), a section for a summary of your project, the title, the rating and I think one other section. Please make sure to include all the fandoms your project is working in by FULL FANDOM NAME (not nicknames/abbreviations, as we use a script to put the claims forms together and I've got anywhere from 245 to 675 potential participants this round).

If you need to make any changes the the description info after you've submitted the form email the mods ASAP so I can edit the specific claims info in the spreadsheets we'll be generating before the claims list gets made via script. If you need to edit snippet stuff, email the mods with the subject line information listed in the first section of this post, as fic snippets will not be included in the claims listings (art/fanvid/filk snippets are included in the claims info so as I said before, you must include a snippet in your WIPRB form).

So it looks like, between the Tumblr and DW post, that extending the sign-ups would be something y'all want. So the sign-ups are now officially extended to **May 28th**! I'll still be posting the first check-in form tomorrow, and instead of staying open for one week it will stay open for two this round.

So I have been up for the last 34 hours working on advertisements on Tumblr and I have got to get some sleep. But I have about 11 fandoms that have writers/artists signed up already that I want to advertise to so we have potential partners already following when art claims/fic claims go up. So how would you all feel if I extended sign-ups to the 28th? The first check-in will still go live on the 22nd, but since they're voluntary you don't have to do it if you just signed up (we don't ask for proof of progress, BTW; it's just a checkbox to let us know you're still participating). How I Finished My Shit: I see the posts for the mini-bang every year. This year, I finally decided to participate. I sat down, reread that first chapter I had posted, tried to get back into its mood of Goncharovesque purple prose, and did my best. Between February 15th and February 22d, there is a specific form we would like you to fill out to post your fanworks. It allows you bragging rights for finishing your fic/art, and also links to the location of your fic (it should be up somewhere like AO3/FF.net/your personal Tumblr under a tag/any other fic or journal community) in its completion. We also have an AO3 collection for this round where you can post the AO3 postings of your fic and art to when you are finished posting new chapters.

Summary: When Jules is born there is a name over his heart. That's not unusual since there's always an age difference between soulmates. After all, the names appear at the exact moment when the other half is born—down to the millisecond. The odd part of Jules' mark is the name itself. Only one word—Data. What is that supposed to mean? What kind of name is that? It's not even a proper name. His soulmate isn't a Liam, or a Noah, or a Sophia or an Evelyn—something normal. No, the one who matches Jules' soul goes by Data.

Data does not understand this need that humans have to be with one's soulmate, even though he has one himself. The name, Jules Subatoi Bashir, appeared over where a human heart would be, three years after being activated. It is a particular signature—very sloppy with embellished loops—like it had been written in some sort of hurry. He keeps the mark to himself, finding that it is no one else's concern. It is unimportant, and would only serve as a distraction to his work and life.

When I Started: 2020
How I Lost My Shit: I got frustrated over several things. 1) It's a rare pair. It's not like I've never written for a rare pair before, but it was still discouraging because why should I bother writing it if no one will read it? And this is a soulmate au. That's not a trope everyone likes. So writing for a rare pairing with an odd trope since Data is an adroid and Julian is human. Seriously, who would want to read that? 2) I've never written for TNG or DS9 so I worried I was getting the characters wrong. 3) Originally I envisioned this to be around 4,000 words. I was stuck with the middle of the story where Data and Julian get together. I had the beginning and ending, but nothing in-between. 4) I had someone look over what I had. They liked what I had, and also said if it were them they'd expand on the story to make it multiple chapters. I dunno why but it irritated me. Legit do not know why.
How I Finished My Shit: This is one of those fic ideas that refused to die. It's one of those WIP fics that didn't leave me alone. I always knew or hoped I'd come back to it, and finish it. I knew of WIP Big Bang from last years, but never particpated in it before. I was looking forward to the 2024 round to help inspire me to finish something. In the end, what was planned out to be 4,000 words has turned into my longest fic to date with 63,264 words. This fic would not be here without the constant support I got from everyone on the 30+ fanfic discord server. I sprinted with many people to keep on writing those words. I shared snippets fairly often and kind of gained a following for the fic, especially from people who were fandom blind. I found a wonderful beta who I am enternally grateful for. Without all of them in my corner, this fic would have never been completed. Also thanks to the mods for being insanely understanding.

So it's December 1st where I am (where the heck has the year gone?!?) and that means the "official" posting period for the 2024 WIP Big Bang is now over. However, unofficial posting continues until December 31st, so if you haven't finished your fic or art, you have until then to post to Tumblr or Dreamwidth and be included in the 2024 Master Post.

Next up is the International Fanworks Day Mini Bang! That starts January 1st and lasts up until February 22nd, with posting starting February 15th and lasting for a week. This is for works that didn't make it in time to be included in the 2024 Master Post as well as fics 7,500 words and under (no new art for this one...that will come up during the next WIP Reverse Bang in April).

Everyone should be super proud of themselves for all the work they put into their fics, even if they had to drop out or didn't finish by November 30th. The mods are all pleased with how much work everyone did and all the great fanworks that got released into the wild! The 2024 Master Post should be up within the next week on Tumblr and Dreamwidth.
