WIP Big Bang 2019 is over!



Congratulations to everyone!! We had a lot of great fic and great art posted and it's time to celebrate! I'm so so proud of all of you and I hope you're all proud of yourselves as well. You did something great by completing your stories and I'm really glad you all participated. I'm really impressed by all the fantastic fics and beautiful art that was produced. If you haven't had a chance to check everyone else's posts and leave comments, please do!

Bragging Rights: This was one of those stories which immediately jumped out to me. I love me some rare pairs in my fandoms, and by all rights, Bucky/Connie from the Stark Fair in "Captain America: The First Avenger" is one. And while I only know that Connie and Clara Oswald "share" their actress, I had a lot of fun creating art for this wonderful story. Right now, there's only the story cover here, but the chapter headers are in the works and will be added as soon as they are all done!!

Bragging Rights: I am playing catch-up on posting the remaining art I need to post because I got hit with a nasty bout of my chronic fatigue and then earlier had been at a hotel with no wi-fi. But this had been done a while ago, so it was just a matter of getting it up! I loved this fic so much and it was a pleasure to make a mix for it. It's sweet, but there's also a part that speaks to the protests going on now all around the globe and I loved that. Such a good blend, and I tried to reflect the ideas of love and the ideas of freedom of speech in this fic. Also, I'm not entirely sure who does the "Imperial March" cover but this is my favorite version so I found whoever made what I believe is the first post and credited them.

Bragging Rights: All I know of this fandom is nobody seemed to like the ending, so it took me a while to realize I was never going to find a good image of Ryou to use. ^_^ But I ended up finding some great images of his canon brother and went with a silhouette for the banner, and I think it turned out great (also this was my first time doing silhouettes since I made old school iPod icons years ago, and I so almost forgot how to do it). The wallpaper idea came from the line of dialogue I was given and a texture, to repeat it over and over and then have it in the nice script on top. I'm pretty pleased with how it all looks.

Once I figured out how to do a decent gold gradient tint to the feathers on the wings, I think it was just perfect. When I Started: June 2003 (OMG!)

How I Lost My Shit: I was going through a terrible time then, having lost my surgical career to an injury, retraining and going out for my first job in the new field, new fandoms beckoned. I was also beginning to publish professionally then which took a lot of my time and I felt like I had written myself into a corner with this story.

How I Finished My Shit: Last year I joined this community and finished another long-languishing Buffyverse fic and decided I would keep at it until I DID finish them all. I still have no idea where I was planning to go with this back in 2003 but I’ve sixteen years of writing under my belt at this point so here I am with a new plot based off what existed (the first three chapters) and that’s how I ended up with this monster.

Disclaimer - As always, Joss owns all characters. The only thing I own are the few OC’s you’ll see in here. Lyrics, poetry and prose will be marked appropriately so we’ll all know who owns them. In all cases, it’s not me.

Timeline – 20 years post series ending.

Author’s Note –Since this was started in in 2003, it was written before season five of Angel and before any of the comic book canon so it’s an alternative reality story (which is why Connor has a different last name. Origins hadn’t aired yet). I’m also amused that I predicted the return of the X-Files back then. I almost changed the show’s name here but decided to leave the show title as I had it back in 2003. Thanks to evil_little_dog and rahirah for betaing at least a part of this fan novel. To be honest as of this publishing I have NOT used rahirah’s edits because I’m pressed for time but I will. And a big thanks to penaltywaltz for the two soundtracks and art for this. I love it and you need to check it out! You can find them here

Author’s Note #2 Things Andrew did in Dead Things (namely the attempted gang rape of Warren’s girlfriend and her murder) and other murder/attempted murders in canon, guaranteed this was not a character I liked because he never paid a price for that. There are scenes were some of the characters are equally not okay with him later in this story.

Author's Note #3 In full disclosure, yes the story IS done but not all of it is posted. I apologize for that. I will be getting it all up over the next several days. Firstly, I had two professional writing deadlines in this middle of this (including one for today). Secondly, when I signed up for this, I had no idea how big this story was going to get. I was like oh, it'll probably end up 20K (it was 13,700K when I abandoned it). It's now over 100,000 words of new material. There's no way to edit it in time. I decided it would be a better reading experience all around if no one had to read my first draft. Better for my readers, better for the story. I'll put up draft two in its entirety within the next few days and then tweak it all later after its settled. So yeah...it's a novel. Again, two big bangs in a row so thank you for. I did, however just put up about another 7500 new words today as I had edited them previously back when I naively dreamed this would top out at 20K.

Bragging Rights: So this one was a bit of a challenge, but in a really fun way. cornerofmadness had songs at the beginning of most chapters, and I wanted to incorporate those as well as other suggestions that were made, and as a lot of the already picked music is in some of my favorite genres, I had some music to add as well. I ended up with 38 songs between all that, and since the two main characters in the fic had never met, I figured the best thing to do was split it into two mixes, and focus one mix cover on each character while giving them similar front covers. I'm really really proud of this set, I am.

How I Lost My Shit: I just got overwhelmed with a lot of other stories I started around the same time and didn’t really have a clear idea of what I wanted to do with this story.
How I Finished My Shit: I looked at it and decided if I could make this story all about how Sherlock and Molly met, and then reconnected and their shotgun wedding to save Molly’s niece from being married to a bastard fae prince, then I could tell more stories about certain events in a series and it would be easier for me to write. So I got the set-up and wedding done, and then I’ll work on the arrival of Moriarty and the eventual crowning of Sherlock as king of the fae in other stories.

How I Lost My Shit: I started it while I was writing a rush of summer fics that year, and it ended up being a lot of fics that I wrote one chapter and then abandoned them. Then in early 2019 I started writing a little more of this one before I submitted it for WIPBB but got stuck as to what the dramatic turn should be.
How I Finished My Shit: My friend strangelock221b on Tumblr gave me the idea of using a lawsuit in the fic, since it involved someone trying to take over a business, and I wrote four chapters really quickly before getting stuck having to make sure all my WIPBB fics had enough for snippets, and then I finished it with the other five chapters the day I finished submitting the last of the snippets.

How I Lost My Shit: I essentially stepped away from the Doctor Who fandom for the most part, and had kind of painted myself into a corner with how I wrote this.
How I Finished My Shit: When I was going through what I had written to send out snippets, I realized I utilized time skips in the fic and I could just skip to one of the magic dates in Doctor Who (the night before Rory and Amy’s wedding) and have this become a series, where the girls and Rory have adventures trying to restore the universe and retrieve the Doctor from the universe we saw him in on the show. So once I decided to make it a series I realized I only needed one more chapter and boom! It practically wrote itself.

How I Lost My Shit: Listen, I tried as hard as I could not to start this fic. At the start of the year, I wanted to work on an original series I've been tossing back and forth and written a lot for, but never managed to complete (hello next year's WIP Big Bang), but I couldn't stop thinking about it and started writing it. THEN! I restarted after 20,000 words because something wasn't right with the time line. THEN I had another idea that made the time line shift AS WELL as ruin a good majority of the continuity so far. I had written to the middle of book two at that point, and I realized I needed to start over. I was ready to throw my hands up, but the fic kept bugging me, so here we are (ideally I want to finish the whole series before the year is out, so I really need to get my shit together. Speaking of...)
How I Finished My Shit: So, so many word sprints with friends, a lot of butt in chair time, outlines, muttering to myself, "This is teaching you how to write a series, all the hiccoughs are a good thing," writer's block, catching up after writer's block, Camp NaNoWrimo April, Camp NaNoWriMo July, my friends being totally interested as explained what was going on in the fic, friends helping me brainstorm and friends just being awesome. Thanks y'all. I finished this for you and I'm probably going to finish the others for you too.

How I Finished My Shit: Actually, it was all the hoopla for “Avengers: Endgame” and an article I read that more or less “spoiled” what was going to happen in the movie I read in April, which I didn’t know if it was true but it gave me some great ideas. So I sat down one evening, wrote four chapters, then wrote the last four the next day once I gave myself the okay to make this into a series.

When I Started: October 9th, 2013
How I Lost My Shit: Okay. So despite the fact pretty much every fic I have submitted to WIPBB in the last few years is Sherlock based, I have a love/hate relationship with the show (for example, I still haven’t seen series 4 yet). This fic is the result of one of my least favorite episodes being requested over and over for a rewrite, and me managing to get through the episode once over a span of two days and then noping out after chapter 1.
How I Finished My Shit: Six years and a couple of failed attempts later, I decided eff it, I was just going to ignore the stuff I didn’t like, change things around, MAKE FRANKLAND SURVIVE and just let the chips fall where they may. I think it’s faithful to the episode to a point, but I like my version a bit more. And before anyone asks, I hated the lab scenes so I cut out the trip to Baskerville for that reason, which was what had been stopping me from forward progress until last week. Also, the amazing art by twisted_slinky was a huge inspiration, so I am so grateful for that.
