Story Title: Other Halves
Fandom: Forever/Highlander: the Series
Link(s): Other Halves
Summary: Detective Mike Hanson is a pretty observant guy, and when he goes undercover in a dating club to solve a string of poisonings, he sees a lot more than he's equipped to understand. Set concurrent with "Something Called Justice."

When I Started: In 2015, I signed up for the annual Highlander exchange, Highlander Shortcuts, and was matched to someone who had included in their requests one for a crossover with Forever. The spark caught, and in less than a month I wrote the first two stories in, what would become, a series, and the first half of this one—which spent the next five years being called Untitled Story #3.
How I Lost My Shit: This is a casefic in which the victims are poisoned. In the first draft of the story, the poisonings were occurring in the bar where everyone meets. The more I wrote, the more I ran headlong into a simple logistical issue: why the hell were people still going to this bar? Sadly, I couldn’t come up with an answer, and the words petered out.
How I Finished My Shit: Somewhere along the way, I had the brilliant idea to have the poisonings occur outside the story. Only now I had to figure out who was committing the murders. Frankly, I had no idea. I also had no idea why they were poisoning people. A murder mystery without a motive and a culprit isn’t much of a story, especially when the main character is a homicide detective whose job it is to figure these details out. I did know whom I didn’t want as the culprit. With a lot of brainstorming and handholding from idelthoughts, I started to answer some of the persistent questions without having to sacrifice what vision I did have. Then, as more words appeared, more answers did.

Story Title: Haunting Memories
Fandom: Forever (TV)
Link(s): Haunting Memories (on AO3)
Summary: Four months after reuniting with Henry, James is haunted by memories of his past life. One particular memory causes him to reconsider being with Henry.
Will James have the courage to reveal the truth to him?
Warnings Angst
Characters: Henry Morgan, James Carter, Abe Morgan, Adam, OCs
Pairings: Henry Morgan/James Carter
When I Started: Around Sept. 2015. I got inspired to write this as a sequel to Eternal Soulmate.
How I Lost My Shit: I just became overwhelmed with all these ideas for the story. But I think they sounded better in my head than on paper. Lol. And plus I had other story ideas I wanted to pursue. I participated in some fic challenges and those became a priority because of deadlines. Unfortunately this story fell to the wayside. It hadn’t been for a challenge initially, so the lack of a real deadline was a problem…
How I Finished My Shit I’m grateful for the WIP Big Bang. I knew the best way to get the story completed was to join this challenge. I’m glad I had this choice available. Also, it helped that I took out all the ideas that would have weighed down the story.

Summary:    It’s a routine murder investigation—until a mysterious device bodyswaps Henry and Lucas, just as it did their murder victim.  To return to their own bodies, they must solve the murder while keeping their condition a secret from Jo and their colleagues, on top of negotiating Lucas’ love life and family, and Henry’s secret immortality. But who is immortal now? And for Henry, is a shot at mortality worth becoming someone else?

When I Started:   The idea to write a bodyswap story started with this prompt I got in January 2015.  After I wrote the little drabble, I had a few ideas about how the bigger story would go, jotted myself down a few notes, and told myself I'd get back to it.  However, every time I opened the file thinking I'd finally start the story, I only ended up adding more ideas, and did write a 1500 word opening scene (the existing opening scene for the story), but that's as far as I got.

A year later, the notes had morphed into an outline.  By that point I was determined that if I was going to write it, it had to be a "proper" story with a real mystery rather than just a throwaway background case.  I tweaked the outline again—by which time the outline was 12k and it was getting too intimidating to think I would ever be able to write it.

Then LadySilver (also signed up with her Highlander/Forever fic, Something Called Honor) suggested I enter the WIP Big Bang to get it done.  I signed up and started properly writing the story on March 23rd.

How I Lost My Shit: 107,000 WORDS IN 4 MONTHS.  IT IS QUITE CLEAR HOW I LOST MY SHIT.  I basically did nothing else for that period of time other than write and moan about writing.  I set myself a weekly due date for chapters and scenes, and what was a 12-chapter outline with a projected 50k word count (lolololololol) turned into a 25-chapter, 108k story.

How I Finished My Shit: I would never have finished this story if not for LadySilver, who was my nightly fic-writing buddy.  We talked over the various plot points and character arcs of our respective stories, whined and complained and encouraged each other, and she saved my skin more than a few times when I got stuck and needed a hand out of the mire.

But in the larger picture, I owe the finishing of this fic to the entire Forever fandom, who are the nicest, most encouraging, sweetest bunch of people.  Even though the show has been canceled (sob) for almost a year and a half now, and it was just a one-season wonder, they are still enthusiastic and supportive of new fics.  I talked about writing this and posted sneak peeks on my tumblr throughout the process, and every single time people cheered me on.  I'm so grateful to everyone for their support and encouragement!

This is by far the longest fic I've ever written, and the most intense in terms of all the time for planning and writing that went into it.  It feels really, really good to be able to say that I wrote a novel.  Thank you, wipbigbang, for encouraging me to get this done!  I doubt I would have ever started if not for the push.

 Story Title: The Revival Job

Fandom: Forever

Link: AO3

Summary: Joanna Reece and her team of con artists are after a rare art piece in the hands of a man known only as 'Adam'. It looks like it will be a straightforward job until their backer, Henry Morgan--who seems to have a history with the mark--gets involved and things start to get complicated.

Warnings:

Characters: Jo Martinez, Joanna Reece, Molly Dawes | Iona Payne, Abigail, Henry Morgan, Abe Morgan, Adam

Pairings: Henry/Abigail

When I Started: I originally started this for the Big Reveal Forever Ficathon sometime between July and September of 2015.

How I Lost My Shit: This story is pretty plotty, especially compared to what I usually write. I just didn’t give myself enough time to finish in time for the original ficathon, so I had to drop out. I never had enough motivation to finish without a deadline.

How I Finished My Shit: Looming deadlines and a lot of panicking. A lot of revision too. There were so many times that I would have an idea for a section/detail/scene and then I’d start writing, and have to stop part way through and go “...Wait a second. That doesn’t work because of x.” There was a lot of going back to the drawing board. There’s a reason I don’t write plot heavy stories very often. But the more dialogue heavy/character heavy stuff was what kept me going. Not to mention the fact that an almost all ladies heist AU was super fun to write. :D
