Summary: Sam and Dean don't find Jimmy Novak in time before the demons corner him. But it isn't the demons who kill him.

After Jimmy's death, Sam and Dean's only connection to Castiel is through Claire Novak. A few years pass. When a 14-year old Claire has no place to go, Sam and Dean take her in and semi-retire from hunting. Thanks to Cas telling them about the Men of Letters Bunker during their first meeting with Claire, Sam and Dean can provide a more permanent home for her.

Shortly after her 18th birthday, Claire discovers an unnerving truth that she doesn't think even Sam and Dean can handle.

When I Started: I started this story in February 2021 or a little after that, not sure. This story is for a Supernatural writing challenge -- Supernatural Trope Celebration. I was glad to do a story with this kind of storyline. I think since I saw episode 10x09 where Castiel tries to help Claire, I wanted to explore their complicated bond.


How I Lost My Shit: I felt this story was experimental and I was nervous about posting it. I really needed some extra motivation to work on and complete this story. I was stuck on several scenes for some time. The story progress was going slower than I wanted.
How I Finished My Shit: I'm glad that I used this story for the WIP Big Bang. Knowing this story was in the two writing challenges was a great motivator. Also, the timed writing sprints on one of the Discord servers I'm in helped a ton in pushing me to complete this story.
