Summary When Admiral Pike tells Spock that the local group home that Starfleet has partnered with has a young half-human/half-Vulcan child in their care who needs a mentor while arrangements are being made to transfer him into the custody of someone on New Vulcan, he is unsure of what to do or how to feel or react at first. But once he meets the child and they begin to bond, he realizes that his life will be enriched by having him in it, and perhaps that he can begin to heal some old wounds he did not realize he still had.

How I Lost My Shit I had honestly been off to a great start with support from my commissioner and a friend of mine who loves my ST: AOS fic. But I ended up, last year, getting triggered in a roleplay game by a player who played Pike and since he was supposed to be a huge part of the fic, I ended up just shelving it for my own mental health.
How I Finished My Shit I talked to my commissioner a few months before WIPBB started about how we wanted to deal with the Pike issue and she admitted she hated AOS!Pike so cutting him out was perfectly fine. Then it just took a while to plan the new direction of the story, which went into when WIPBB started. What gave me the big push was my commissioner and I deciding it could be interesting to expand this idea into a trilogy of fics known as "Mended, Blended & Found", set around each of the movies (so this one is set closer to "Star Trek" than "Star Trek Into Darkness," which the other fic will revolve around the beginning and aftermath of, with Paul having been on the Enterprise with his foster parents prior to the movie/during Neruda and then staying with Sarek on New Vulcan during the events of going after Khan, and then the third story set before and during "Star Trek Beyond" with Uhura and Spock making decisions differently due to the two previous fics). Once I had that okay, the fic just flowed out. Also, another thing that helped was "Star Trek Discovery," TBH, and this fic became a stealth crossover and ONCE I CATCH UP will "officially" crossover with Disco (or at least the version of Disco that exists in the AOS verse in my head...I adore Michael and Tilly and others and want them in this series so it shall happen).
