Let's talk fic
There have been some requests in previous years for a post where authors can discuss the fics they're writing for the bang. So this is your chance! You can comment here to talk about your story, get feedback, entice prospective artists, exchange ideas, etc. Feel free to comment on others' posts even if you're not writing for the bang, the more the merrier. This post will remain open for the entire round, so if you decide to change your story in a few weeks or just see this post late, you're still welcome to comment. And if you want to hear more about everyone else's fics, you might want to track this post too.

This is totally optional, but if you'd like to post about your fic, we'd like to listen!

Mine is a fic set in the Roswell universe that I have been trying to write forever:

About six months after fleeing from Roswell, crooked FBI agents catch up with Michael and Maria when they're split off from the group. Desperate to protect Michael, Maria uses her talent for fast talking and charming an audience on the agents. This results in them arresting Maria because they think she is the alien. Now it is up to a very pissed off and freaked out Michael to round up the rest of their friends to find and rescue Maria before the unthinkable happens to her. Meanwhile, Maria is doing her best to survive the torture and keep her ruse going long enough for Michael and the rest of her friends to get away. Only no one counted on the fact that Maria wasn’t as mundane a human as everyone, including her, have always thought. Desperate times and desperate hearts can cause desperate measures.

I am writing eighteen fics this round (!!!) since I have a ton of fic that was commissioned I want to finish so here goes:

And Never Left Your Side (Star Trek AOS): This is one of my commissioned fics, an AOS rewrite of the TOS movie "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" which is set after "Star Trek Into Darkness" where the Klingons are getting revenge for what Khan did on Kronos and Kirk's role in all of that. I have a few chapters of it written and kind of stalled out on it but I'm hoping to get the impetus back to write it now that I have the movie on BluRay.

Children Of Light, Children Of Dark (BBC Sherlock): This is another commissioned fic that incorporates the David Eddings novels The Belgariad and The Mallorean into a casefic involving a cold case that becomes warm again with a kidnapping and new murders emulating the sequel series.

Everything You Ever (CSI: NY): This is a rewrite of the ending of the season 5 finale "Pay Up," where Flack is the one who gets injured in the shooting at the end of the episode. I discovered it when I started moving fics off od Livejournal and thought maybe I'd finish it for the hell of it.

Imperfection (BBC Sherlock): This is another commission fic that I'm not quite sure will fit the minimum word count, but I'm hoping. It's based on two songs by the band Skillet, and involves Molly finally getting the brass ones to ask Sherlock out but sees him with another prettier woman. So she ends up making a wish that doesn't work out quite how she expected.

It Takes The Whole Of London (BBC Sherlock): Another commission fic set before the end of series 3 where Molly ends up becoming the single mother to a goddaughter she has that isn't Rosie and raises her with the help of her friends (at first without Sherlock, and then later with his help, but it's not Sherlolly).

Led About On A (Not So) Merry Chase (BBC Sherlock): Another commission fic, set in a university AU, where Molly, John and Mary set up a scavenger hunt to bring Sherlock out of a funk that ends up going from a private thing for the four of them to a university-wide event and causing a bit of trouble because of that.

Let No One Be Abandoned Here (Star Trek AOS): A commissioned Spock-centric fic where he ends up the mentor to a half-Vulcan/half-human child abandoned in an orphanage in San Francisco while arrangements are made for someone from New Vulcan to adopt him (it's set between the 2009 movie and STID...my end game is for Spock and Uhura to adopt him).

My Sadness Halved, My Happiness Doubled (BBC Sherlock): A coffee shop AU people have been begging me to finish for ages that is Sherlolly, Warstan and probably other ships. I had headcanons for it for a "send me an AU and I'll give you 5 headcanons" and everyone was all "OMG YOU MUST WRITE THIS" so I started and then real life kicked my butt.

Never Will I Forget The Deep Shadows, Never Will I Waste The Moon's Light (BBC Sherlock): Another commissioned fic, and a sort of crossover with Merlin, where Sherlock and Mycroft have magical powers and Molly finds out, but Sherlock doesn't wipe her memories. It's fine for a while until someone finds out she knows and tries to use it against him.

New Family Memories (Star Trek AOS + other crossovers): A commission which is basically cataloguing adventures Bones & Kirk have together with other crew members both on Star Trek planets and on other planets mentioned in various other space themed fandoms (so far I've used Firefly and Doctor Who and I'm planning on using DC Comics with the Star Sapphires & Green Lanterns and maybe Star Wars or Cowboy Bebop).

No More Regrets (BBC Sherlock): A commission that is a university college professor AU where Sherlock and Molly are professors at rival universities who start dating but Moriarty, who has a grudge on Sherlock, finds out and tries to make Sherlock and Molly's lives hell.

Rare Gifts (BBC Sherlock/Arthurian Mythology): The 9th fic in my "Unexpected Legacies" series where Sherlock is a descendant of Merlin and has powers that nearly rival his, and Molly is a descendant of Morgan le Fey and their fates are tied together. This fic involves working a case for Mycroft (who does not have magical powers) involving a businessman who disappeared in woods that are supposedly haunted.

Rectifying Past Mistakes (BBC Sherlock): A Sherlock/Mary fic where prior to the events of the show (in university), Sherlock and Mary were married for a brief time, but Mycroft engineered their divorce. When Sherlock fell off the roof in Reichenbach, Mary came back to London under the name Mary Morstan to protect his friends and for reasons known only to herself. But when Mycroft needs him back in London, he collects him from Serbia and informs him that when he goes back to London, his new roommate will be his ex-wife.

The Little Vulcan (Star Trek AOS): A commission fic involving a de-aged (to toddler age) but still of adult intelligence Spock around the crew of the Enterprise as they try and figure out why all of the Vulcans on board the Enterprise have suddenly aged down.

The Paths We Take, Glittering And Entwined (Star Trek AOS): A commissioned Kirk/Spock AU fic where they are bonded together through a mental bond the first time they meet (because Spock is a Captain and Kirk is an ensign in the fic) but Kirk is keeping a secret, in that he has an addiction to a drug of the time that he is trying to hide.

The Prince Next Door (Star Trek AOS): A commissioned AU fic which may or may not become Spirk where Spock is a prince being hidden on Earth due to political turmoil on his home planet and is living in an apartment next door to Kirk, which he finds out the truth about when someone tries to kill Spock. Eventually, Spock will turn his back on being royalty and join Starfleet with Kirk and Bones against the wishes of his father.

The Tale Of Mop Eyes And The Most Beautiful Man In The World, Who Lives In Her Building And Only Ever Sees Her When She Looks Disgusting (BBC Sherlock): A silly little Sherlolly story told as quasi-journal entries based on the Tumblr post of the same name, where every time Sherlock sees Molly, she's making a fool out of herself.

What Matters More (BBC Sherlock): A commissioned Sally Donovan & Molly Hooper-centric friendship fic involving Sally becoming friendly with Tom, Molly's ex-fiancee, and having to decide between dating Tom and possibly being happy in a relationship with him or losing her friendship with Molly because Molly isn't happy about the situation.

I really love the idea of your Spock as mentor fic - that's a situation that I always find interesting in stories. I hope you have good luck finishing that one!

Thanks! I just started delving into the casebuilding of the old cases (there were totems left with the various people involved in the cases that represent the various characters in the original trilogy) and then there's going to be more with the new cases coming up and I'll be working on using Irene and her knowledge of people's secrets in the future, too.

Woo, talking about fic! Mine is a Star Wars Rogue One story about Bodhi Rook/Galen Erso who are the doomed pairing of my heart. I just think it's fascinating to imagine how they got to know each other - we get so little of that in the canon. And of course there is no escaping how relevant their storyline is for life today. I guess writing a story about quiet activists secretly doing something small but vital just feels really good. Although my fic is pre-canon so they're still doomed, but that doesn't really matter with this pairing, I don't think.
cinaed: Gregory Peck[personal profile] cinaed on April 14th, 2017 12:40 pm (UTC)
Oh, I love the idea of Bodhi/Galen, who are also a doomed pairing of my heart (unfortunately for me, I have a lot of doomed pairings, but Bodhi/Galen is definitely one of my favorites)!

But yes, I love the concept of quiet activists secretly doing something small but vital, and am intrigued by how you'll develop their relationship. Good luck with the story!

I'm working to finish a gen Watchmen story that has been rattling around half-finished on my hard drive for far too long. It's an AU set in the summer of 1951 in which - instead of being apprehended and sent to the Charlton Home - ten-year-old Walter Kovacs runs off into the city after the attack on his bullies and is eventually taken in by Hollis Mason.

I'm writing a Person of Interest sentinel/guide AU, set around the introduction episode for Shaw. It's Root/Shaw? Except that I got so caught up in the AU mechanics that there hasn't been as much actual femslash as I'd like.
Shuufleur[personal profile] shuufleur93 on April 21st, 2017 02:39 pm (UTC)
Ooooh, this seems interesting! I kinda love the Guide/Sentinel trope, and I guess I can see how it can work with Root and Shaw. Excited to read it when you finish it! :)

I have several options:

The second half of a practical acquaintance with bees. Advantages: I have a pretty clear idea of where it's going with this, and we're firmly off-road so far as canon goes so I don't have to worry about being jossed. Disadvantages: At least 40K of words to finish off the story satisfactorily.

The remainder of the sedoretu series Sharp Evening Stars And Bright Morning Flame. Advantage: I know where it's going, and the last installment is slated to be ~16K. Disadvantage: I've been stuck on this for about six months and even the entire month of March being focused on it only resulted in an entire scrapped section.

The two sequels to Between Destiny And Love. Advantage: Relatively short - 8K each. Disadvantage: potential to get knocked off by inevitable jossing by canon.

As-yet unpublished 'Fake Marriage' fic that's in the works. Advantage: BE STILL MY TROPE! Disadvantage: there's a lot of story to get through...

UGH.

I'll be trying to finish a sequel to Abandon, a Baby-sitters Club future fic about Charlie and Mary Anne.

I've convinced others of the ship but nobody else writes it, so the sequel is purely an excuse for self-indulgent OTP fluff (with a twist of angst because I can't help myself).

It's a project I have a lot of headcanon for and I guess the headcanon/daydreaming overtook the ability to write the fic. I'm hoping I can rein it in a little, or at least write this as an installment in a longer series. I still want it to feel complete in itself though, just in case things don't go any further than two stories. I'm guessing this WIP will be about the same length as the first installment/chapter.

Oh, I'm excited for this. :) I was part of that Babysitters Club reread a while back (until my library ran out of the books and I couldn't continue), and really liked the idea of Charlie/Mary Anne. And I have the day off so I can read Abandon.

Good luck with it!

Oh my gosh, thank you! I was 100% sure I'd be the only one interested in this haha.

I'm trying to finish a Les Miserables Valjean/Javert undercover gay fic I've had as a wip for...several years now. I actually have 10,000 words on it already and the outline for the rest of the story, I just need to actually sit down and write it. But I am having fun with fraught hand-holding and misunderstandings. And I'm trying something new with this fic-- my other Javert/Valjean longfics were set right after the barricades and involved Javert and Valjean getting to know each other. This one is set two years later and they're friends and oblivious to the potential for more.

Summary: After Javert is assigned to discover a blackmailer within a public-house that caters to men who prefer other men, Valjean is unexpectedly drawn into the case. Together they must stop the blackmailer before any lives can be ruined, but perhaps they'll learn something surprising about themselves as well along the way.

I'm picking up a Hunger Games/Harry Potter crossover:

The first Quarter Quell is getting close. A group of junior gamemakers goes location scouting, and they discover an abandoned castle in the zone once known as Scotland. Meanwhile, a fourteen-year-old girl in District Eight (with a lifelong history of inexplicable accidents) lives in fear of almost everything – especially reaping days.

In this universe, part of the history is that wizards and muggles have previously been at war with each other. Muggles won, and it's generally accepted in Panem that magic once existed, but it's dead now.

It's an OC heavy fic, a lot of the story is from the POV of the district eight girl and the gamemakers. But I also have the ghost of Lavender Brown living in Hogwarts castle and involved with the action, so there are still familiar faces around!

My main struggle is plot. I don't normally write long and plotty fic! I really like what I have so far, but... gaaahhhh.

I have several options to work on, all Star Trek: the Original series:

1. Escape from Wonderland: Kirk is abducted into a creepy wonderland, and Spock has to risk his life to save him.

2. steampunk genderbend superheroine teahouse AU.

3. a slave fic set after the master's presumed death

4. angsty friend with benefit fic with pining. Set in a fantasy AU.

Hooded in Red - Long dead WIP
My story is called Hooded in Red, and I started it many years ago in response to a fairy tale challenge. Some of my earliest self-imposed writing challenges were to write parodies of books and tv shows with the plot of Little Red Riding Hood, so when the fairy tale challenge came along I had to do it for the TV show Sherlock. If you want to know how long this has been a WIP, the last comment on my Fanfiction.net version of this story says,

"How is it that this is a year old and never finished Aless? You can't leave a story hanging on a cliff hanger! Id have loved to read more! What happened to them? :)"
That post is dated Aug 6, 2014 so this is long overdue for revisiting.

This was set during the hiatus between season 2 and 3 and it had both Molly and Sherlock abducted by the Middle men in Moriarty's organization and their efforts to escape. It was not Sherlolly, but there was some Greg/Molly and Sherlock/Molly potential although it is mostly gen spy stuff.
I'd love to have art as I could always see my Villain with his hands in the pockets of his red hoody staring up at Molly who was standing on the step of a flower shop in an empty street. He looked a bit like Collin Morgan. I'm still plotting, but I always had a plan for where it would go, and we get to see good use of Molly's medical degree since Sherlock gets shot.

Anyway, I appreciate the incentive to get this story done.

I've finally narrowed down what Shadowhunters fic I'll be working on, the sequel to a little too much, could never enough, the fic I wrote for last year's [community profile] iddyiddybangbang, but which grew out of hand and is now a three parter.
The basic premise is that Magnus' warlock mark is also his dick (I wanted to write knotting fic without werewolves or A/B/O being involved).
First part was blowjobs and piercings, the second part, which I'm writing now, is the discovery of the giant dick + alec practicing...
I really wanted to write a training montage type of fic, but instead of Rocky running up stairs, we have Alec trying out giant dildoes, all set to Eye Of The Tiger. Or well, the fic equivalent of that, I'm still figuring out a format.
Honestly, I have no idea what it's going to end up like, but I really, really want to finish this, so I'll be free of it.

That Teenager One - MCU
"Natasha, Nick and Tony go on a mission to retrieve Bruce after AoU, and are de-aged to adolescence. A story of four genius misfit loners sticking it to The Man and occasionally to each other, settling scores and finding themselves. The real adventure is the friends they make along the way. Except for the evil scientists. And the thugs with tasers. And that shark."

I chose this one because it's actually pretty far along, about 80%, and I really want to focus and knock it out except there are bits that intimidate me to write. I just need the extra push to tackle them, to stop overthinking.
