Whatcha writing??
As promised, here is the post where you can discuss your fic if you'd like some community support/involvement/etc. before our regularly schedule whine bar posts begin. Feel free to jump in and talk about what you're writing! I'm so excited to see what awesome stories we have to look forward to this year :)

So I'm finishing up a fic I haven't updated on Ao3 since May of 2016. ...For All He's Worth - https://archiveofourown.org/works/6912070/chapters/15767134

It's a (stay with me here) MCU male lactation fic. Steve gets captured and experimented on by Red Skull, gets out, uses his new modifications to help Peggy and Howling Commandos, then Steve gets frozen. That's where I ended it. I had meant to continue it with Steve finding Bucky and rescuing him and nursing him back to health. And now I am!

There's hurt/comfort, pining, lots of milk, sexy times, love, romance, all in an old Hydra bunker.

...Yeah, ok, I'll be over here writing in my weird little niche.

I'm hopefully finishing a Person of Interest AU fic. Signing up for this made me buckle down and choose a title, which is always a bonus.

Sounds interesting!
The only POI fic I ever wrote was for a WIP Big Bang a few years ago, so it worked for me! :o)

Years ago—years—I challenged myself to write a het story focusing on a female POV character. (I have occasionally written female characters, but an embarrassing percentage of my stories are focused entirely on guys.)

I picked Diana Skouris from The 4400 and I managed to bang out 40,000 words and then... squirrell!... or a bright shiny object... or maybe depression. I don't remember why I stopped writing. I stopped and the story just languished and I felt like a failure because I never finished Diana's story.

The core theme is a fluffy romance between Diana and Marco. But I got ideas for casefic and tangents. Sometimes when you write fanfic you're just writing a scene and sometimes you're writing a whole episode or a two-parter. I'm writing a season-long story arc.

It has literally been at least six years since I started this story. I know this only because five years ago I posted a different Diana story to AO3 and mentioned that I'd been working on this other story that "just got very long and muddled in my head and I'm no closer to finishing that story than I was a year ago." The two stories were supposed to be companion pieces, two different "what if" continuations of the series. The one I thought of as "the dark version" I wrapped up in just 6k words and posted. This is the one that's supposed to have a happy ending. Apparently happy endings are more work.

The good news: since signing up for this challenge I have dusted off the story and written an additional two thousand words.

I'm aware that there are virtually no 4400 fans left out there, so I'm just doing all of this for three kudos and a sense of completion. I think the sense of completion is the most important part.

current word count: 42,213

I have a Yu-Gi-Oh! GX WIP from 2014 that's ridiculously, unbelievably cute, and in digging it out and poking at it a little I've only come up with even cuter ideas. I have never written anything this cute. I'm a little scared.

Currently I'm fussing endlessly over name spellings, because fandom prefers Judai but that's wrong but using Juudai makes me self-conscious but Jūdai is just obnoxious -
Osidiano[personal profile] osidiano on April 20th, 2018 01:16 pm (UTC)
Don't be self-conscious, friendo! I am also a GX writer and I use 'Juudai' and have never had anybody give me grief over it. It's definitely the lesser of evils (I cringed a little reading the Jūdai version).

I usually end up going with whatever name spellings the archive uses, which is vaguely annoying because FFN and AO3 don't use the same ones for all the minor characters... >_>

I'm attempting to finish a crossover fic for InuYasha and Princess Tutu. I started writing it many years ago (back in 2010/2011) after making an offhand comment to a friend that I didn't think such a crossover would be possible, given the differences in the fandoms. (Now here we are and it's one of my most popular InuYasha stories even though it's been unfinished for years... go figure.)

I have the rest of the story mapped out, but I can already feel myself getting derailed by various other shiny things.

I signed up to finish two fics, one of which is a Hellboy 2 fic, set before the movie, with an original female character. This was the very first fic I ever posted to AO3 - I started writing it in February of 2014 and I haven't updated it since August of 2016.

The second one is a star wars sequel trilogy modern au kylux fic that was inspired by a rather creepy tumblr that started following me a couple of years ago, which starts as anonymous hookups and evolves into feelings, which is a fanfic requirement, isn't it? I got performance anxiety, I guess, with this one, because I made the mistake of looking and found out people were subscribed to it, but I've got the last two chapters pretty much together now, so it's all good!

Those both sound fantastic! I'll definitely be looking forward to them :)

My fic will be a time travel story for an obscure BBC show series, Victorian Farm. I started writing it for Yuletide last year, then realized that it was rapidly getting out of control, and shelved it for the fic I did end up gifting. I'm happy with that one, but I still love this one and am really hoping to finish it.

Of course, I have a currently running WIP that I need to finish first, but I'm down to the last three chapters on that one, so I hope I can have it done shortly and then I can devote myself to this fest. :D?

I've challenged myself to finish a story I started that involves my OTP, but not in the way I usually write them.

It's an SGA/H50 crossover where my OTP turn out to be platonic soulmates, because one of them is already in a Sentinel/Guide sexytimes relationship. The hard part will be working out the dynamics of these relationships. And my OTP not hooking up. LOL!
alobear[personal profile] alobear on April 22nd, 2018 07:49 am (UTC)
This sounds very cool - I love it when the concept from The Sentinel is used in other fandoms. It's got way more interesting and complex than it ever was on the original show.

Grimm
Some time ago - almost exactly two years ago - I wrote a magic-made-them-do-it fic: A Draught of Deep Desire (Grimm: Nick/Renard). And I didn't have time to include much aftermath. Easy, I said: I'll just write a sequel! And I did start.

I got quite a bit written, actually, but about half of it is missing, and the other half needs a serious overhaul. I kept coming back to it, but never really made much progress.

Well, I posted a brief interlude at one point - Wash Yourself Away. That was back in 2016, too.

But NOW I'm actually going to finish the sequel! FINALLY. Promise!

I'm writing a follow-up/sequel of a fanfic I finished with WIPBB...

It's a crossover SPN/MCU. It's also about a rare pairing: Sam Winchester/Peter Parker.

I want to note that Peter here is Andrew Garfield's version (and older), not Tom Holland's.

So, this thing. I was supposed to write it for the previous Bang but hm, I lacked time (sprinkled with some procrastination) so I couldn't "finish" it. I still had stuff to say. I wrote 4k then kinda stopped. And here I am. Again.

Back in 2016 I started a fix-it for the end of Supergirl's first season, because I loved Astra to pieces and couldn't bear the thought of her permanent death. I got started on it, setting up the point of canon-divergence. And then Supergirl moved to the CW, and Cat left, and Astra was still dead, and I moved on to other shows, and I largely forgot about the fic. But. I still want to give Astra and Alex the story they deserve, so that's what I'll be working on now.

I am finishing a fic I started about twelve years ago. I have poked at it off and on.

FullMetal Alchemist 2003 version. It is Envy centric and how he starts to make small changes and it changes his destiny and he finds his happily ever after.

He is not my favorite character but the bunny won't die so I think if I have the commitment here to finish it I finally will.

I'm hoping to write a Steve/Loki recovery fic, which I started in 2015.

It's a sequel to my previous story. And deals with some pretty dark themes. Which is possibly why it's been difficult to write. I've been in a pretty dark frame of mind when I wrote the first stiory and it's hard to get back to that.

Every six months or so I'd make an attempt to get it somewhere, and every time it would inevitably fail. I'm hoping this time will be different, as I've simplified it and stripped off all the subplots. And I now think that it's better to just do it and not strive for perfection. If it's only 20% of what I imagine in my head, it's still better than nothing.

On the other hand Infinity War is coming out next week and I don't know what it' will do to my story.
thewightknight: STRAIGHT TO HELL[personal profile] mahariel on April 21st, 2018 06:09 am (UTC)
Damn the canon! Full speed ahead!

But seriously, I've been in both situations, where I had a hard time writing the dark things and where I didn't finish things before the next installment came out and invalidated my headcanons. But that's the glory of fanfic! We do what we want, yes? Can't wait to see where your fic goes.

I feel a little nervous talking about mine, what with being new to the community, and all. But here goes...

Mine is a crossover between Doctor Who and The Legend of Zelda. I don't know how I got the idea, but it was originally meant to be a 25-in-one for [community profile] genprompt_bingo; time got away from me, though, so I didn't get it finished.

Stargate SG-1 fic: (canon divergence)

I first had the idea for this story last year, then picked it up again briefly in Jan. It starts a week after season 7's Fragile Balance. Jack has a change of heart and stops by his clone's apartment to drop off some things (hockey stuff and other sentimental items) when he discovers the rest of his team had asked Thor to clone teenage versions of themselves. Problem was, they hadn't told him. Jack is hurt but locks it away.

Flash forward 6 months later (just after Season 7's Chimera). Things still aren't right with the team so when Thor drops by and requests Jack's help with the Replicators on what could be a one-way mission, Jack goes.

My plan is to follow the 3 separate story arcs (teenage clones, Original Jack and Thor, and Original SG-1) and have them reintegrate during the Lost City episode.

I haven't decided on the ending yet. Hopefully, it will reveal itself as I get closer, LOL.

Pairings; clone!Jack/clone!Sam, possibly Jack/Sam

I'm writing an MCU road trip story where, after she tells the Senate Committee to piss off at the end of Civil War, Natasha does a favor for Pepper and finds herself in a car with Tony and Bruce; reptile petting zoos, roadside attractions, crashing a family reunion, panic attacks, midnight pool parlors, and putting a team together.

Sounds like fun, until a voice from the past speaks her worst fear out loud, and then she's off trying to put her brain and her life back together.

I've got a map, a rather large music mix, and about 10k words so far.

I will hopefully be finishing a Check, Please! fic I started on tumblr over a year ago. The bit I have is more of a prelude, and I plan to cover Years 1 & 2, sort of following along with canon. It's a magical realism AU.
It's something I started when I was really supposed to be working on something else, and I wish I would have had the time to work on it more when I originally began it.

In late August of 2005 (gods above and below, I feel old...), a meme went around Livejournal in which you listed 12 characters and then answered various questions about them. The trick was that you couldn't look at the questions first. I picked characters from a whole bunch of different fandoms, and one of my questions was whether Uchicha Sasuke (from Naruto) would do better paired with Faith Lehane (from BtVS) or with Duo Maxwell (from Gundam Wing). "Obviously," I said, "they should have a threesome."

Beware of making jokes. Sometimes they come back to bite you. *wry*

Anyway, I worked on the resulting story (Lemonade) off and on through about 45,000 words and mid-2013, at which point I got hopelessly distracted by other writing projects and real-life problems. Now I am trying to finally sit down and finish the blasted thing. Because I have a pretty solid outline, but things always change between outline and final draft, and I want to know what happens! (Also, and this is probably crazy, I kind of want to start outlining the sequel...)

Years ago I had this great idea for a Teen Wolf horror/fantasy story, or rather, the first half of it. I've spent the last four years noodling on it and getting nowhere so NOW IT HAPPENS.

Sterek, canon-divergent, post S4. Stiles stumbles across two secrets when Derek is far away from Beacon Hills - the Hales' secret library, and the curse they've kept from the world for generations. And of course he falls right into the most deadly of traps.

I went to a con, met a (minor) star, and showed her the art I had already from a friend, and explained my dilemma. That was three years ago. She signed the art "ALWAYS FINISH WHAT YOU START" and it keeps haunting me that I haven't.

I've been meaning to write a John Wick fic ever since the first movie came out in 2014, but never got round to it.

I decided to use the challenge as motivation, did some brainstorming, wondered where the hell John could actually go at the end of the second movie - and it came to me - Avengers Tower, of course!

So, a John Wick/Avengers crossover adventure was born - and it's proving to be more fun that I've had writing anything in *ages*. Yay for WIP Big Bang!

Mine will be a Teen Wolf fic that I started for the Heroine BB a couple of years ago. I wanted to challenge myself to write a long het story. I've always wanted to write a more dark Allison POV fic, Canon divergent from s3. Allison lives and Scott does not, and Allison and stiles do not handle their emotions very well. Allison really embraces her hunter persona, and stiles ends up meeting up with her on the road.

I'll be finishing a Yona of the Dawn fic that I started almost three years ago. I don't know if many people are familiar with the series, but this only features one canon character anyway--basically, there's an immortal character, Zeno, and much of his life is a mystery and I wanted to explore what might've happened to him in the time between historic canon and present canon.

I set the fic aside because...well, mainly because the concept was pretty heavy on violence and body horror (like I said, immortal character) and I didn't think anyone would want to read it. But I've gotten a little more confident in both my writing and the fandom's, uh, bloodthirstiness, and I think it's finally time to do this.

So far I haven't written much more, but I've been working on fleshing out OCs (and apparently creating new ones...sigh) and solidifying the plot beyond "awful things happen to Zeno but then he makes friends, the end." It has somehow turned into something of a heist story?

Sooooo...I am insane. Very very insane. I'm trying to finish 25 fics this round. I've been in the plotting stages for most of them since sign-ups started, but I'm going to start writing them on Monday. Hopefully I will get them all finished with the craziness that is m life (though one I may swap out for another because I'm homeless at the moment and can't watch the old school Trek movie I need to for the plot of one of my AOS fics).

Basically there's Sherlock fic and Star Trek AOS fic I didn't finish last round, a few new Sherlock and Star Trek AOS fics I'm adding, a Sherlock/Criminal Minds crossover I started years ago, and Elementary fic I owe for a commission and that's all I can thik of off the top of my head.

I'm still trying to choose between which of my two Sanctuary stories to return to. Both I started for bangs last year that got derailed. One because of some comm admin issues (loooong story, but multi-platform challenge hiccups meant I thought I'd missed a required checkin and it wasn't and by the time we'd sorted it out it was too close to deadline for me to pick the project back up), and the other because I had a computer failure and lost most of my words.

The one I have more words for is a Helen/Will post-series fic and I have it beautifully plotted out and I'm very eager to get back to it. This was the one that suffered the crash, so I have a few thousand saved words from my bang checkins amusingly enough but I lost thousands more. But the creative work is still mostly there in my head for those words, I just need to sit down and recreate and tweak them.

The second one is the one I'm leaning more towards simply because it's less fully formed in my head so I need more of a push to go back to it. It was a Lucy Lane (Supergirl)/Kate Freelander (Sanctuary) & Helen crossover fic. I'm still super enthusiastic about the idea and have my outline notes and early words before the admin confusion started. But I didn't get as far, and there's no re-writing-deleted-words easy mode to get me going again.

I'm working on a hockey RPF fic that I started in the spring/summer of 2016 and have been poking at on and off ever since. The pairing is Lehtonen/Niemi and the basic premise was based on a hockey kink meme prompt about players ending up on the same team after being secretly married and then separated in the past.

The reasons I stalled out were partly to do with the team having a bad season and then players moving on, but I'm embracing that this story is going to be a product of a particular time.
