When I Started: I don't actually remember when I started. I have, at all times, a giant stack of partially-written fics that I intend to finish when I get around to it. This was one of the more-recent rather than the truly-ancient, but that probably means I started it a year or two ago.
How I Lost My Shit: I don't think anything in particular happened, really. Like a lot of my WIPs, I wrote a bunch of the story, slowed down when I got to the point where all that was left was bits where I hadn't quite figured out what to say -- and, in this case, half a sex scene. (Writing sex is not my favorite thing, but I seem to have gotten into the habit of writing stories focused on sex scenes. Possibly not the cleverest of lifestyle choices.)
How I Finished My Shit: I signed up for wipbigbang as part of an effort to get some WIPs finished this year, and picked this one as low-hanging fruit: it was outlined and each scene was at least half-written, there were no giant thorny problems to solve, I mostly just needed to get it done. And...then I went and signed up for two exchanges with early-summer deadlines and spent most of the allotted time working on those projects. Fortunately, my theory that finishing this wouldn't be *too* much work proved correct. Except that the darned sex scene just wouldn't end! It wound up being fully half the total length of the fic! Also, finding the place for the story to end was tricky, and I'm not entirely sure I'm satisfied with it; I reached a place where I felt I'd said everything that needed to be said and it was time for the story to stop, but the characters still haven't finished having sex! So, I ended it there, for lack of an option I like better. It's an artistic choice! Yeah.
